What You Should Know About the 3DS Ambassador Program
If you are a Nintendo fan, then you may have heard about the 3DS Ambassador Program. This is an initiative that was launched by Nintendo in 2011 to reward early adopters of the 3DS handheld console. If you were one of the gamers who bought a 3DS before August 12, 2011, then you are eligible for the Ambassador Program. Here is what you should know about the program.
What is the Ambassador Program?
The Ambassador Program was created by Nintendo as a way to apologize to early adopters of the 3DS console. The 3DS was launched in March 2011 but sales were not as impressive as Nintendo had hoped. One of the main complaints was the lack of games available for the console. As a result, Nintendo dropped the price of the console by $80 just four months after its launch. This caused frustration among early adopters who felt that they had paid too much for their console.
To make matters right, Nintendo introduced the Ambassador Program. Those who bought a 3DS before the price drop were given access to 10 free NES games and 10 free Game Boy Advance games. These games were not available to the public and could only be downloaded by ambassadors.
What games are included?
The NES games that were included in the Ambassador Program are as follows:
1. Super Mario Bros.
2. The Legend of Zelda
3. Ice Climber
4. Balloon Fight
5. Donkey Kong Jr.
6. Wrecking Crew
7. NES Open Tournament Golf
8. Yoshi
9. Metroid
10. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
The Game Boy Advance games that were included are:
1. Mario vs. Donkey Kong
2. Mario Kart: Super Circuit
3. Metroid Fusion
4. WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$
5. Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3
6. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
7. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
8. F-Zero Maximum Velocity
9. Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
10. Wario Land 4
How do I access the games?
If you are an ambassador, you can download the games by going to the Nintendo eShop on your 3DS console. From there, you can find the “Titles You’ve Downloaded” option and the games will be available for download. You can also download the games to multiple 3DS consoles, as long as they are linked to the same Nintendo Network account.
Can I become an ambassador if I didn’t buy a 3DS before August 12, 2011?
Unfortunately, no. The Ambassador Program was a one-time offer for early adopters of the 3DS console. If you bought a 3DS after the price drop, then you are not eligible for the program.
In conclusion, the 3DS Ambassador Program is an initiative by Nintendo to reward early adopters of the 3DS console. If you are an ambassador, you have access to 20 free games that are not available to the public. Although the program is no longer available, it remains a unique perk for those who bought a 3DS before August 12, 2011.
