‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Introduces New Vampire Played by Michael Patrick O’Brien, Celebrates Final Season With Profane Comic-Con Panel
The Staten Island vampires are back, and this time they’re bringing a new face to the table (or rather, the coffin). “What We Do in the Shadows” held a hilarious panel at Comic-Con International this past weekend, teasing the upcoming final season while also introducing Michael Patrick O’Brien as the newest member of the undead ensemble.
O’Brien, known for his work in “The Righteous Gemstones” and “The Afterparty,” will be playing a character called “Derek” – a fresh-faced, energy vampire with an insatiable thirst for… attention. While his arrival adds a new dynamic to the already chaotic vampire household, the panel made it clear that Derek’s biggest obstacle will be earning the respect of Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and the eternally exasperated Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch).
The panel was filled with trademark “What We Do in the Shadows” humor, featuring plenty of profanity, inside jokes, and playful banter between the cast. The highlight of the panel was a hilarious scene where O’Brien’s “Derek” character awkwardly tried to integrate himself into the group, only to be met with suspicion and a few well-placed insults.
Fans were treated to a brief sneak peek of the upcoming season, which promises to be a fittingly wild and chaotic send-off for the beloved show. The season will tackle themes of legacy, acceptance, and of course, the eternal battle between good and… less good.
While the news of the final season may be bittersweet, the panel ensured that the show will end on a high note, packed with the same hilarious and heart-warming moments that have captivated audiences for years.
“What We Do in the Shadows” returns for its final season on [Insert Premiere Date] on FX.
