What Is Spotify Private Session and How to Enable or Disable It
Spotify is renowned for its vast music library and social features that allow users to see friends’ activities, share playlists, and collaborate on listening experiences. However, sometimes you may prefer to keep your listening habits private, particularly when you are exploring guilty pleasure tunes or just want a personal moment. This is where Spotify’s Private Session feature comes in.
A Private Session on Spotify is a feature that hides your activity from “Friend Activity” feeds and ensures that the music you listen to during the session does not influence your future music recommendations. It’s perfect for those moments when you want to stream privately without broadcasting your musical tastes to others.
To Enable a Private Session on Spotify:
1. Open the Spotify app on your desktop or mobile device.
2. Click on your profile picture or name displayed in the upper right-hand corner (On mobile, tap “Home,” followed by the gear icon for settings).
3. In the drop-down menu that appears, look for a “Private Session” option (On mobile, under “Social,” you’ll find the “Private Session” toggle).
4. Click to enable the Private Session. You’ll know it’s active when you see a blue lock icon next to your profile name or an indication on your mobile app.
While in a private session, you can listen freely without worrying about who sees what you’re playing. However, remember that a Private Session only lasts until you restart Spotify or remain inactive for a long period.
To Disable a Private Session:
1. Access your Spotify settings by clicking on your profile name or image.
2. Look again for the “Private Session” setting in the same place where you activated it.
3. Simply click or toggle off the feature to return to normal mode.
Disabling the Private Session will reactivate public visibility of your music playback in Friend Activity feeds and ensure your listened tracks contribute once more to personalized recommendations.
It should be noted that if you have the Spotify app open across different devices, enabling or disabling the private session may need to be done separately on each device.
Private Sessions are a handy tool for maintaining control over your online digital presence and enhancing your experience with Spotify. Whether it’s enjoying an obscure favorite album or just seeking some solace in music without external eyes and ears, toggling this function can help cater to your listening preferences anytime.
