Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert that has captured the hearts and taste buds of people around the world. This exquisite treat is made of delicious layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese mixture, all dusted with cocoa powder. Today, we will be sharing an easy recipe for making this classic dessert at home, even for those who are novices in the kitchen.
Ingredients:
– 6 large egg yolks
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1 1/4 cup mascarpone cheese, room temperature
– 1 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
– 2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 24 to 30 Italian ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
– Cocoa powder, for dusting
Instructions:
1. Begin by setting up a heat-safe bowl over a saucepan filled with simmering water (make sure the water does not touch the bottom of the bowl). In this bowl, using an electric mixer or a whisk, beat together the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture becomes thick and pale yellow. It should take about five minutes of continuous mixing.
2. Gradually add the mascarpone cheese into the yolk-sugar mixture and continue to beat until well combined. Set this mixture aside.
3. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Make sure not to overwhip; otherwise, your tiramisu may have a slightly grainy texture.
4. Gently fold about half of the whipped cream into the egg yolk-mascarpone mixture to lighten it up. Afterward, fold in the remaining whipped cream until everything is well combined.
5. Stir vanilla extract into your cooled espresso or strong coffee. Now comes one of our favorite parts – assembling the tiramisu!
6. Working one at a time, briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them completely. This process should be done quickly so that the biscuits do not become too soggy. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers on your serving dish (an 8×8 inch or similar size dish is ideal).
7. Next, spread half of the mascarpone-cream mixture evenly over the layer of ladyfingers.
8. Repeat the process by arranging another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone-cream mixture, followed by spreading the rest of the mascarpone-cream mixture on top.
9. Finally, using a fine mesh sieve, dust a generous layer of cocoa powder over the surface of your tiramisu.
10. Refrigerate your tiramisu for at least four hours or preferably, overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and develop fully.
Serve this delightful dessert at a dinner party or simply as a special treat for yourself and your family. Take pride in creating a classic Italian dessert in your own kitchen and enjoy every creamy, coffee-infused bite!
