Lawrence O’Donnell Hits Donald Trump Where It Hurts: ‘This Is a Very Low-Rated Convention’
In a scathing critique, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell struck back at Donald Trump’s latest bragging claims, declaring his convention to be a “very low-rated” affair. The journalist and television host, known for his sharp wit and incisive commentary, did not mince words in his assessment of Trump’s Republican National Convention.
Speaking on his MSNBC show, “The Last Word,” O’Donnell took aim at Trump’s boasts about his convention’s ratings, which, according to Nielsen Media Research, averaged a total audience of 32.2 million viewers per night. While this may seem impressive, O’Donnell pointed out that this figure is actually lower than the 2012 Republican National Convention, which had an average of 34.9 million viewers.
“This is a very low-rated convention, no matter how you spin it,” O’Donnell stated. “Thirty-two million viewers is a weak number for a Republican convention in a presidential election year. It’s not just the fact that it’s lower than the 2012 convention, it’s the fact that it’s lower than the RNC before that, and it’s lower than the Democratic National Convention this year.”
O’Donnell’s stark assessment was not limited to the numbers alone. He also criticized the tone and content of the convention, stating that it was lacking in substance and lacking in substance. “The Donald Trump convention was all about personality, style, and empty words, and it was devoid of any serious policy discussions or legitimate policy debates,” he noted.
O’Donnell also drew attention to the stark contrast between the Trump convention and the Democratic National Convention, which saw historic numbers of viewers and widespread media coverage. “The Democratic National Convention was a well-organized, well-produced, and well-substantive three-day event that showcased the best of the Democratic party,” he said. “The contrast between the two conventions was stark, and it’s clear that Trump’s team knew what they had to do to get the attention they wanted: make it all about Trump and his ego.”
O’Donnell’s commentary is the latest sign that the mainstream media is not afraid to take on Trump’s claims and scrutinize his actions. As the election season heats up, it’s likely that this kind of criticism will only continue to intensify.
