Korea Box Office: ‘Inside Out 2’ Wins Fifth Weekend, Fends Off ‘Project Silence’
For the fifth consecutive weekend, Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has dominated the Korean box office, earning a whopping 350,000 admissions and outperforming new release “Project Silence” at the multiplex.
According to the Korean Film Council, “Inside Out 2” raked in an impressive 350,000 admissions over the past weekend, bringing its total to over 2.5 million ticket sales in the country. The animated sequel has been a major hit in Korea, charming audiences with its colorful and imaginative storyline.
Meanwhile, “Project Silence”, a science fiction thriller starring Song Joong-ki, could not muster up the same level of enthusiasm, attracting 230,000 viewers and earning around 2.1 billion won ($1.82 million USD) at the box office.
The success of “Inside Out 2” is not surprising, given its highly-anticipated sequel status and the popularity of the original release. The film has also been praised by critics for its thought-provoking themes and stunning visuals.
“Project Silence”, on the other hand, has been met with mixed reviews, with some critics praising its unique premise and action sequences, while others have found it lacking in storytelling and character development.
Despite its lower performance, “Project Silence” still had a strong opening weekend, and its box office potential remains promising. The film is expected to attract a wider audience as the weekend progresses, particularly among fans of science fiction and action genres.
With the release of “Inside Out 2” and “Project Silence”, the Korean box office has seen a marked increase in admissions over the past week. According to the Korean Film Council, ticket sales have risen by 10% compared to the same weekend last year, with a total of 2.5 million admissions reported.
The competition is expected to remain fierce in the coming weeks, with several new releases set to hit the screens, including “The Eight Hundred” and “The Secret: Dare to Dream”. As the summer season approaches, it will be interesting to see how the Korean box office continues to evolve and which films will emerge as the top grossers.
