I’m Living My Best Life as an International Pet Sitter!
Traveling the world, meeting new furry friends, and immersing myself in different cultures – that’s my everyday reality as an international pet sitter. Gone are the days when I felt chained to a 9-to-5 desk job, dreading Monday mornings. Now, every day is a unique adventure that starts with a wagging tail or a gentle purr.
How did this fairy tale begin, you wonder? It all started with an unexpected decision to quit my corporate job and a lifelong passion for animals. After some extensive research and self-reflection, I realized that combining my love for pets and travel could be more than just a dream. That’s when I stumbled upon the world of international pet sitting.
Signing up on various pet-sitting platforms was the leap of faith I needed. I created an engaging profile, showcasing my extensive experience with animals and my easygoing yet responsible personality. It wasn’t long before I landed my first gig caring for a charming tabby cat in Paris. Strolling through Montmartre with Biscuit, the tabby cat, I had pinched myself to make sure it was real – Charming streets, fresh croissants, and cuddles with Biscuit at day’s end.
Word-of-mouth and stellar reviews from pet owners soon opened more doors—or maybe I should say gates—to destinations like a beachside villa in Costa Rica tending to two golden retrievers or a flat in Tokyo where I lounged with an Akita named Yuki. Each place has offered its own little paradise not just for me but for the pets as well.
Living out of my suitcase can be challenging at times; there’s no doubt about it. But the rewards far outweigh any inconveniences. Seeing the relief and trust in pet owners’ eyes when they see their beloved companions are in good hands gives me immense satisfaction. And there’s nothing quite like exploring new nooks of the world at the leisurely pace set by canine strolls or feline playtime.
Beyond looking after pets’ physical needs—feeding, grooming, walking—I prioritize their emotional well-being by maintaining their usual routine and giving plenty of love and attention. Whether it’s hiking with dogs in the Swiss Alps or scratching the chin of a Persian cat while overlooking ancient Roman ruins, each moment is priceless.
What has become increasingly clear through this journey is that while I am caring for these animals, they too teach me so much about kindness, adaptability, and unconditional love. The bonds formed often leave me both elated and heartbroken when it’s time to say goodbye.
I’ve learned that ‘living my best life’ doesn’t mean life is perfect or without lonely moments; however, those are fleeting compared to the joy this lifestyle brings. Every new place is a chapter in my memoir where each pet becomes a central character shaping my narrative—one filled with licks, tail wags, purrs…and endless memories across the globe.
