How to Wrap Text in Google Sheets
As online collaboration for work and education becomes more common, it is essential to learn how to format data efficiently. One of the most essential formatting tools for spreadsheets is text wrapping. Text wrapping is wrapping a lengthy text to the next line entirely instead of cutting off the text. Wrapping text in Google Sheets is stress-free, and in the following paragraphs, you will learn some steps to achieve that.
Step 1: Open Google Sheets. To begin with, you need to create or open a Google Sheet file that you want to edit or format. Log in to your Google account, and then open the Google Sheets.
Step 2: Select the cells to wrap. Click on the cell or cells you want to wrap. You can select several cells at once by holding down your selection key (Ctrl or Shift) and dragging the mouse over the cells.
Step 3: Click on the “Wrap Text” button. After selecting the cells, go to the “Format” menu situated at the menu bar and click on it. Then hover over the “Text wrapping” button and click on the “Wrap” under it. You will see that your previous selection changed after clicking the icon.
Step 4: Adjust row height. After wrapping your cells, you need to adjust the row height to suit the new text flow. You can do this manually or leave it to Google Sheets to adjust. Manually set the height by clicking on the row number while hovering over it, then holding and dragging to your preferred height. You can also click on the Format button on the menu bar and select “Resize rows” to let Google Sheets automatically adjust the height of the row according to the content.
Step 5: Wrap merged cells. If you have merged cells, then wrapping text follows the same process. First, select the merged cells, and then click on the “Wrap Text” button. You can auto-fit the cell size by changing the font, style, and size after wrapping the merged cells.
Step 6: Unwrap cells. If you no longer need the text to wrap, repeat steps 2 and 3, then click on the “Wrap” option again to unwrap. To adjust the row height, follow step 4.
Wrapping text is essential when dealing with lengthy data that needs to be read quickly. It eliminates the need to expand the cells, so the data is all visible at once. By following these steps, you can wrap text and merge cells in Google Sheets easily. Text wrapping is just one of the many formatting options that Google Sheets offers to make creating and editing your spreadsheet more efficient and visually appealing.
