How to Use Multiple Desktops With Mission Control in macOS
If you’re a Mac user, you’re probably familiar with Mission Control — the feature that allows you to view all your open windows and swipe between them with a three-finger gesture. But did you know that you can also use Mission Control to create and manage multiple desktops? This can be incredibly useful for people who need to work on multiple projects or tasks at once without getting distracted by other applications.
Creating a New Desktop
To create a new desktop, you’ll need to enter Mission Control. You can do this by either:
– Swiping up with three or four fingers on your trackpad or Magic Mouse.
– Pressing the F3 key on your keyboard.
– Pressing Control + Up Arrow.
Once you’re in Mission Control, you should see all your open windows arranged across the top of the screen. At the top-right corner of the screen, you’ll see a “+” icon. Click on it, and a new desktop will appear at the top of the screen.
Alternatively, you can drag a window to the top of the screen, and a new desktop will be created automatically.
Navigate Between Desktops
To switch between desktops, swipe left or right with three or four fingers on your trackpad or Magic Mouse. Alternatively, you can press Control + Left Arrow or Control + Right Arrow on your keyboard.
You can also see all the desktops you’ve created by entering Mission Control and looking at the row of desktops at the top of the screen. To drag windows between desktops, simply drag them to the desktop you want in the Mission Control overview.
Customize Desktops
You can customize each desktop to your liking by adding or removing windows, changing the background, and modifying the layout.
To add a new window to a desktop, simply click on the app icon in your Dock or use the keyboard shortcut (Command + N) to open the app. The window will now appear in the current desktop.
To move a window to a different desktop, enter Mission Control, click and hold on the window, and drag it to the desired desktop.
To remove a desktop, simply move all the windows to another desktop, and Mission Control will automatically remove the empty desktop.
To change the background of a desktop, enter System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver. From there, you can choose a new wallpaper or solid color.
To modify the layout of a desktop, enter System Preferences > Mission Control. From there, you can choose how your desktops are arranged, whether they’re automatically rearranged, and other settings.
