How to Use Chromecast: A Guide for Beginners
Chromecast is a device that lets you stream media content like movies, TV shows, music, and photos on your TV or any other display with an HDMI input. It’s a powerful tool that can transform your regular TV into a smart one. Using Chromecast is very simple, but if you’re new to the device, it can be intimidating at first. Here’s a beginner’s guide to help you use Chromecast.
Step 1: Get your Chromecast ready
Before you start using your Chromecast, you need to set it up first. Plug in the Chromecast to your TV’s HDMI port and connect the power cord to it. Connect the power cord to a power source and turn on the TV. Chromecast will automatically appear on the screen. If it doesn’t, you can switch to the HDMI input that you plugged it into.
Step 2: Connect Chromecast to Wi-fi
After connecting Chromecast to the TV, the next thing is to connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. Download the Google Home app on your phone, click on the plus sign and select “Set up device”. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Chromecast with your home Wi-Fi network. Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Chromecast.
Step 3: Start casting
Once you have successfully connected Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, you can start casting. Open any app that supports Chromecast on your phone, like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, or Spotify. Now, select the movie or TV show or music you want to watch or listen to and tap on the cast icon. The icon usually looks like a rectangle with a Wi-Fi signal coming out of the bottom left corner.
Step 4: Control your media using your phone
After casting your media content from your phone to your TV, you can use your phone to control what’s playing on your TV. You can pause, play, skip, or adjust the volume right from the media app on your phone. This feature is useful when you want to change something but can’t find the remote control.
Step 5: Use Voice Commands
If you have Google Assistant on your phone, you can use voice commands to control your Chromecast. You can say “Hey Google, pause”, “Hey Google, play”, or “Hey Google, stop casting”. You can also tell Google Assistant to cast a specific movie or TV show or YouTube video just by saying “Hey Google, cast [title] on Chromecast.”
