How to Use Cheat Engine
Cheat Engine is a powerful open-source tool designed primarily for modifying single-player games running on a Windows operating system. This versatile software allows users to change variables such as health, currency, and experience points within a broad range of supported games. In this article, we will discuss the steps on how to use Cheat Engine effectively.
Note: Using Cheat Engine for online or multiplayer games is not recommended, as it may result in bans or other consequences. Please use the software responsibly and within the boundaries of allowed usage.
1. Download and Install Cheat Engine
First, visit the official Cheat Engine website (https://www.cheatengine.org) and download the latest version of the software. Run the installer and follow its instructions to complete the installation process.
2. Launch Cheat Engine and Open the Game
Open both Cheat Engine and the game you would like to modify. It’s essential to run your game first so Cheat Engine can detect its processes.
3. Attach Cheat Engine to your Game’s Process
In the Cheat Engine window, click the computer-shaped icon in the upper-left corner which is called “Select Process to Open.” A list of all currently running processes will appear; find and select your game’s process and then click “Open.”
4. Identify the Value(s) you want to Change
Before scanning for values, it’s crucial to identify what you want to modify – whether it’s health points (HP), money, ammo, or any other game element.
5. First Scan
After selecting your target value, reproduce it in-game by entering it into Cheat Engine’s “Value” box (e.g., if you have 1000 gold coins in a game, type “1000” into the Value box). Under “Scan Type,” select “Exact Value,” choose the appropriate value type (usually 4 Bytes), and click “First Scan.”
6. Narrowing Down the Results
After the initial scan, you’ll see a list of potential addresses on the left panel of Cheat Engine. Since there might be multiple addresses, you need to narrow down the results. In your game, perform actions that will change the value you want to edit (e.g., earn or spend money). Then enter the new value into the “Value” box, and click “Next Scan.”
Repeat this process until only a few addresses remain on the left panel.
7. Changing the Value(s)
Select one or more addresses from the narrowed-down list and press the red arrow in Cheat Engine to add them to your address list below. Afterward, double-click on the value in the bottom panel and enter your desired value. Enable this change by ticking the box next to your newly added address.
8. Saving and Loading Cheat Tables
To avoid repeating all these steps every time you launch a game, you can save cheat tables (.CT files). Simply click on “File” in Cheat Engine’s menu and select “Save.” To load a previously saved cheat table, navigate to “File” and choose “Open.”
By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to use Cheat Engine effectively – unlocking new possibilities for single-player gaming experiences. Remember, use this powerful tool responsibly, respect game developers’ hard work, and do not use it in online or multiplayer scenarios. Happy gaming!
