How to Thread Your Eyebrows: 15 Steps
Threading is an ancient hair removal technique that has been practiced for centuries in Asia and the Middle East. It’s an excellent alternative to waxing or tweezing, as it’s less painful and gives your eyebrows a cleaner and more precise shape. In this article, we’ll cover 15 steps on how to thread your eyebrows.
1. Gather the materials: To start, you’ll need a spool of thread (preferably cotton), a pair of small scissors, an eyebrow pencil, and a lightweight lotion or gel to help reduce redness.
2. Measure the thread: Cut a piece of thread approximately 24 inches long.
3. Tie a knot: Tie the two ends of the thread together, forming a loop.
4. Hold the loop: Place your fingers inside the loop, one finger from each hand forming an “X” with the thread.
5. Twist the thread: Twist the loop about eight times by moving one hand toward you and the other away from you. This creates a twisted section in the center of the loop.
6. Practice opening and closing: Move your hands in opposite directions to practice opening and closing the twisted center part of the loop. This will be used later to grip and remove hair.
7. Mark your desired shape: Use an eyebrow pencil to lightly sketch out your desired brow shape on both eyebrows.
8. Position yourself: Sit or stand in front of a mirror with good lighting so you can see your eyebrows clearly.
9. Hold your skin taut: Use one hand to gently pull your skin taut around the brow area so it’s easier for the thread to grip hairs.
10. Align the thread: Starting at one end of your brow, align the twisted part of the loop on top of where you want to remove hair.
11. Close and open: Slowly move your hands in opposite directions to close the twisted center around the hairs and then open it to pull the hairs out. The hair will be removed with a swift motion.
12. Work your way across: Repeat the threading process, working your way across the eyebrow from one end to the other. Use gentle, consistent pressure to remove hairs in a clean and precise manner.
13. Pay attention to symmetry: Be sure to take breaks and check your progress to ensure both eyebrows are symmetrical.
14. Clean and soothe: Once you’re happy with your eyebrow shape, use a gentle lotion or gel to clean and soothe the threaded area. This will help reduce any redness or irritation caused by threading.
15. Maintain your new shape: To maintain your freshly threaded eyebrows, repeat these steps every three to four weeks or as needed when new hairs grow in.
Threading is a highly effective technique for achieving beautiful, well-groomed eyebrows. With a little time and practice, you can master this skill and enjoy professional-looking results at home.
