How to Take out a Lip Ring: 6 Steps
Taking out a lip ring can be tricky, especially if you haven’t done it before. With the right steps and precautions, you can safely and painlessly remove your lip ring. Here are six steps to help you through the process.
1. Clean your hands and the area around your lip ring:
Before attempting to remove your lip ring, make sure to wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly. This will reduce the risk of introducing bacteria and other contaminants into the piercing site as you manipulate the jewelry. It’s also a good idea to clean the area around your lip ring with an antiseptic solution or saline.
2. Prepare a clean workspace:
Set up a clean, flat surface to work on, such as a table or countertop. Cover it with paper towels or a clean cloth, and have any tools or replacement jewelry you may need nearby in case of difficulty.
3. Identify the type of lip ring:
There are several types of lip rings, including ball closure rings, captive bead rings, and barbells. Knowing which type you have will help determine how best to remove it.
4. Remove the lip ring:
For ball closure rings or captive bead rings, use a pair of pliers or tweezers to gently pry apart the hoop until the bead comes loose. Be careful not to squeeze too hard or misshape the ring in this process.
For barbells, you’ll need to unscrew one of the ends (either end will usually work). Carefully grip each side of the jewelry with a gloved finger or clean cloth for better grip if necessary, and turn counterclockwise until the end comes off completely.
5. Gently slide out the jewelry:
Once either the bead or end has been removed from your lip ring, gently slide out the jewelry from your piercing hole, taking care not to pull too forcefully or abruptly. Be mindful of any swelling or pain as you do so.
6. Clean the piercing site and jewelry:
Once your lip ring has been removed, clean the piercing site with a saline solution or an antiseptic solution recommended by your piercer. Allow the site to air dry before considering reinserting the lip ring or replacing it with another piece of jewelry.
Remember to also clean your lip ring thoroughly with your cleaning solution of choice and store it in a clean container if you plan on using it again in the future.
By following these six steps, you can safely and easily remove your lip ring without causing unnecessary discomfort or harm. If you experience any difficulty during the process or discover signs of infection, consult a professional piercer for advice and assistance.
