How to Share AirTagsWith Family and Friends
Sharing Apple’s AirTags with family and friends can be a thoughtful way to help them keep track of their belongings. While AirTags are designed to be tied to a single Apple ID, there are ways to let others access the location of your AirTagged items. Here’s how you can share your AirTags with loved ones.
Set Up Family Sharing
The easiest way to share AirTag information is through Family Sharing. This Apple feature allows you to share various Apple services with up to six family members. If you haven’t already set up Family Sharing, follow these steps:
1.Go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone.
2.Tap on your name at the top, then choose ‘Family Sharing.’
3.Follow the on-screen instructions to add a family member.
4.Once you have Family Sharing set up, any family member in your group can see the AirTag in the ‘Find My’ app under the ‘Items’ tab.
Use the Find My App
After setting up Family Sharing, inform your family members to perform the following:
1.Open the ‘Find My’ app on their device.
2.Tap on the ‘Items’ tab.
3.Here they’ll see all devices shared through Family Sharing, including AirTags.
4.Selecting an AirTag will show its current or last known location.
Sharing with Friends
Currently, there’s no direct way to share access to your AirTag with friends outside of Family Sharing. However, if you want a friend to know the location of an item temporarily, you can:
1.Place the AirTag with the item you’re sharing.
2.Have your friend download the ‘Find My’ app and sign in if they have an Apple device.
3.Keep them updated about the item’s location manually using text or voice communication.
It’s important to remember that privacy is a cornerstone of the AirTag design; sharing locations should always be done thoughtfully and with consent from all parties involved.
Remember that sharing permissions for items cannot be set as strictly as those for devices in “Find My iPhone.” The design of AirTags prioritizes user privacy and security, ensuring that only people you trust have access to your belongings’ locations.
By following these guidelines, you can make sure that your family and friends benefit from the convenience of Apple’s AirTags while maintaining everyone’s security and privacy.
