How to Scan with Google Translate
We live in a globalized world where understanding different languages is an essential skill. But what if you’re traveling or dealing with a document you can’t understand? This is where Google Translate’s scanning feature comes in handy, enabling you to translate text instantly from a variety of sources. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of scanning with Google Translate step by step.
Step 1: Download and install the Google Translate app
First, download the Google Translate app from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for iOS). Install the application on your smartphone or tablet and ensure that it’s updated to its latest version.
Step 2: Open the app and select your desired languages
Once the app is installed, open it on your device. You will see two options at the top, representing the two languages you want to translate. On the left, select the source language (the language of the text you are translating), and on the right, select your target language (the language you want to translate the text into).
Step 3: Accessing scan mode
In the main interface of the app, tap on the camera icon. This will open up the camera viewfinder, allowing you to use your device’s camera as a scanner for instant translation.
Step 4: Grant necessary permissions
The first time you try to access scan mode, Google Translate will ask for permission to access your device’s camera. Make sure to grant this permission so that you can use this feature.
Step 5: Capture an image of the text
With scan mode activated and permissions granted, point your device’s camera at a printed text source (such as a book, sign, or menu) that is written in your chosen source language. Ensure that the lighting conditions are adequate for capturing a clear image.
Step 6: Align the text properly
You’ll notice a rectangular box (with red outlines) appearing on the viewfinder. Make sure that the text you want to translate is aligned within this box. Resize the box, if necessary, by dragging its corners to fit the text comfortably within.
Step 7: Instant translation
Once the text is properly aligned, the app will automatically scan and translate it in real-time. The translated text will appear on your screen, overlaying the original text. You can then read the translation in your chosen target language.
Step 8: Save or share the translation (optional)
If you wish to save or share your translated text, tap the “Aa” icon at the bottom of your screen. This will open a new screen with the translated text alongside the original one. From there, you can copy, save or share the result as needed.
With these steps, scanning and translating with Google Translate has never been easier. Now you’ll be able to break down language barriers and access information in virtually any written form from around the world!
