How to Replace the Fridge’s Water Inlet Valve: 10 Steps
Step 1: Gather the necessary tools
Ensure you have a Phillips screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, a container to catch any residual water, and a replacement water inlet valve compatible with your refrigerator model.
Step 2: Unplug your refrigerator
Safety is crucial. Always unplug your refrigerator from the wall and switch off the water supply line connected to it.
Step 3: Locate the water inlet valve
The inlet valve is usually found at the refrigerator’s back near the bottom. Make sure you have enough workspace to access it comfortably.
Step 4: Remove the kick plate
Gently unscrew and remove the kick plate (if present) using a Phillips screwdriver to gain access to the water inlet valve.
Step 5: Identify and disconnect tubing
Carefully inspect the water inlet valve connections. Locate and mark all tubes connected to it for easy reassembly later. Then, gently disconnect these tubes and ensure you have a container ready to catch any residual water.
Step 6: Remove old water inlet valve
Using an adjustable wrench, loosen and remove any mounting screws holding the inlet valve in place. Then, gently slide out the old valve.
Step 7: Install new water inlet valve
Align the new water inlet valve with the screw holes in your fridge and secure it using your adjustable wrench. Ensure it is tightly fixed in its designated position.
Step 8: Reconnect tubing
Reattach all previously disconnected tubes according to your markings made earlier. Ensure that each connection is properly secured to avoid leaks.
Step 9: Replace kick plate
Reinstall the kick plate using your Phillips screwdriver.
Step 10: Test new installation
Plug in your fridge once again, turn on the water supply line, and check for any signs of leakage around your new water inlet valve. If no leaks are detected, you have successfully replaced the water inlet valve!
