Step 1: Download the App

Start by downloading the Bird app on your smartphone from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The app is required to rent and ride a Bird scooter.

Step 2: Sign Up

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need to sign up for an account. Enter your email address, create a password, and add your phone number.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity

Bird requires users to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. You’ll need to take a photo of your driver’s license within the app and wait for it to be approved.

Step 4: Enter Payment Information

Add your credit or debit card information to your account. If you have a promo code, this is also where you’ll enter it.

Step 5: Find a Scooter

Bird scooters are marked on the map in the app as small icons. Find one nearby and make sure it has enough battery life for your intended trip.

Step 6: View Available Scooters

Tap on a scooter icon to view its details, including battery life and estimated range.

Step 7: Get to the Scooter

Walk over to the scooter’s location. If you’re having trouble finding it, try tapping the “Ring” button within the app to make the scooter beep.

Step 8: Unlock Your Ride

To unlock the scooter, open the app and scan the QR code located on the handlebars or footboard of the scooter.

Step 9: Perform a Basic Safety Check

Before hopping on, check that both tires are inflated, brakes are working properly, and that there’s no visible damage to the scooter.

Step 10: Put on Your Helmet

Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended while riding scooters. Make sure yours fits snugly and is fastened properly.

Step 11: Start Riding

To start your ride, stand on the scooter with one foot and use the other foot to push off. The scooter should begin moving. Use the throttle on the right handlebar to control your speed, and squeeze the brake lever on the left handlebar to slow down or stop.

Step 12: Obey Traffic Rules

While riding, obey traffic rules, stay in bike lanes when possible, and be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles.

Step 13: End Your Ride

To end your ride, simply park the scooter in a safe location where it won’t obstruct pedestrian walkways or interfere with traffic. Make sure it’s parked upright.

Step 14: Lock the Scooter

In the app, tap “End Ride” and follow any instructions given. The scooter will lock automatically, and your payment will be processed.
