How to Remove Payment Method From Apple ID and What to Do if You Can’t
Having a payment method attached to your Apple ID is convenient for making quick purchases in the App Store, iTunes, or when paying for your iCloud storage. However, there may come a time when you want to remove your payment information. Maybe you’re switching to a new bank, concerned about security, or simply want to limit your spending. Whatever the reason, removing a payment method from your Apple ID is relatively straightfoward.
Here’s how you can remove a payment method from your Apple ID via various devices:
For iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
1.Go to Settings and tap on your name at the top of the screen.
2.Tap Payment & Shipping and then enter your Apple ID password if prompted.
3.Find the payment method you want to remove and tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
4.Tap the Delete button or the red minus icon next to the payment method and confirm if necessary.
For Mac or PC:
1.Open iTunes and sign in with your Apple ID (if not already signed in).
2.From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen or at the top of the iTunes window, choose Account > View My Account.
3.Authenticate your Apple ID and click View Account.
4.On the Account Information page, click on “Manage Payments.”
5.Click Edit next to the payment method you want to remove.
6.Click Remove or Delete to remove your payment information.
On the Web:
1.Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID credentials.
2.Scroll down to the Payment & Shipping section and click on “Edit.”
3.Next to each payment method is an Edit button; click it.
4.Choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove’ from here.
In some cases, you might find that you’re unable to remove your payment method due to one of several reasons which could include:
– Having an unpaid balance or payment due.
– Having active subscriptions that require a payment method on file.
– Being part of Family Sharing where the organizer must have one.
If encountering such issues, resolve outstanding balances by paying them off directly or updating billing information for subscriptions if that’s required before trying again. For Family Sharing concerns, communicate with the family organizer about changing current setups.
Remember also that at least one person in a Family Sharing group needs to have a payment method listed—this cannot be bypassed while still making use of Family Sharing features involving payments.
Once all obligations are cleared, you should be able to follow through with removing your payment details without further problems!
