How to Play War (Card Game): 13 Steps
1. Gather your players: War is ideally played with two players, but can accommodate more. Determine who will participate in the game.
2. Prepare the deck: Use a standard 52-card deck with no jokers. Make sure the deck is well-shuffled to ensure randomness during play.
3. Deal the cards: Each player should receive an equal amount of cards, face-down, until all cards have been dealt. In a two-player game, each player will have 26 cards.
4. Begin the game: The player to the left of the dealer goes first. Both players simultaneously turn over their top card and place it face-up on the playing surface.
5. Compare cards: The player with the highest-ranking card wins the round and takes both cards, placing them face-down at the bottom of their pile. The ranks are as follows (from highest to lowest): A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
6. Continue playing rounds: Players continue taking turns flipping over their top card in this manner until one player runs out of cards or a tie occurs.
7. Resolve ties – Declare War: If both players flip over a card of the same rank in a round, War is declared! Each player places three more cards face-down on top of their current tied card.
8. Flip and compare again: After placing three face-down cards each in a row, both players flip another card face-up and compare these new cards just as before.
9. Claim victory in War: If a player’s new face-up card is higher than their opponent’s card, they win all of the cards involved in that War – both tied pairs and all six face-down cards – and add them to their pile.
10. Continuation of War: If a tie occurs again during War, repeat steps 7-9 until one player wins the entire set of cards from the tied rounds.
11. End of game: The game continues with normal rounds and Wars until one player has collected all 52 cards in their pile, or both players agree to end the game early.
12. Declare a winner: The player with the most cards at the end of the game is declared the winner.
13. Enjoy and strategize: War is a game of chance, and while there’s no real strategy involved in winning, players can develop their own methods and flair when playing. The unpredictable nature of War makes it a fun and engaging card game suitable for anyone looking for a little battle!
