Salatul Kusoof, or the prayer of solar eclipse, is a special type of Muslim prayer performed during a solar eclipse. This rare and unique event gives Muslims the opportunity to practice additional worship and seek Allah’s forgiveness. Here are 14 steps to help you perform Salatul Kusoof correctly.
1. Confirm the timing: Determine the exact timing of the solar eclipse through reliable sources such as your local mosque or astronomical observatories.
2. Perform ablution (Wudu): Before performing any prayer, ensure you’re in a state of ritual purity by performing Wudu.
3. Dress appropriately: Wear modest and clean clothes that cover your aurah (body parts required to remain covered).
4. Find a suitable location: Ideally, perform Salatul Kusoof at the mosque with a congregation. However, you may also perform it individually at home or other suitable locations.
5. Stand facing Qiblah: Stand so that you face towards the Kaaba in Mecca.
6. Make your intention (Niyyah): Silently intend that you are going to perform Salatul Kusoof for the sake of Allah.
7. Begin with Takbir: Start by raising your hands up to the earlobes and say “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is Great).
8. Recite Al-Fatiha: Recite Surah Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Quran. You may also recite any other verses or Surahs afterward.
9. Perform Ruku’: Bow down in a way that your hands rest on your knees, back is straight, and gaze is at your feet while saying “Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem” (Glory be to my Lord Most Great).
10. Stand up and recite again: After Ruku’, stand up straight and recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by other verses or Surahs.
11. Perform two prostrations (Sujood): Prostrate twice, with forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes touching the ground while saying “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” (Glory be to my Lord Most High).
12. Sit between the two Sujood: After the first prostration, sit and then perform the second Sujood.
13. Repeat steps 8-12: Follow the same sequence for a second Rak’ah (cycle) of the prayer.
14. Conclude with Tashahhud and Salam: After completing the second Rak’ah, sit down and recite Tashahhud
followed by Tasleem (saying “As-salamu ‘alaykum wa Rahmatullah” to your right and left).
With these 14 steps, you will have completed Salatul Kusoof successfully. Remember to engage in additional supplications and seeking forgiveness during this rare occurrence of a solar eclipse. It is also recommended to give charity and help others in need during this time as a means of drawing closer to Allah.
