Step 1: Choose your colors
Select two colors for your ombre wall, one lighter and one darker. These can be different shades of the same color or contrasting colors for a more dramatic effect.
Step 2: Gather your materials
You will need paint rollers, a paint tray, painters’ tape, a measuring tape, a pencil, a level, paintbrushes, a tarp or drop cloth, and of course, your chosen paint colors.
Step 3: Prepare the room
Remove all furniture and décor from the room. Lay down a tarp or drop cloth to protect the floor from any paint spills.
Step 4: Clean the walls
Make sure to clean the walls thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and dust.
Step 5: Apply painters’ tape
Apply painters’ tape around windows, doors, molding, and any other areas you’d like to protect from paint.
Step 6: Mix your paint
Carefully mix your paint in separate containers according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 7: Paint the top color
Using a roller, apply the lighter color on the top half of the wall. Start slightly below the center point of the wall so that you have room to blend both colors together later on. Allow it to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s suggested drying time.
Step 8: Paint the bottom color
Apply the darker paint color using a roller on the bottom half of the wall. Be sure to start slightly above the bottom edge of the lighter color so that you have room to blend them together in later steps.
Step 9: Begin blending
While both paints are still wet, begin blending them gently with a dry brush using vertical strokes. Gradually work your way up from the bottom until you reach an even transition between both colors.
Step 10: Fine-tune the blend
Use a smaller, clean brush to refine the transition line between the two colors for a smoother blend. You can slightly dip the brush into either paint color if needed.
Step 11: Evaluate your work
Step back and examine your ombre wall. Make any necessary touch-ups to ensure a seamless gradient.
Step 12: Removing excess paint
Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to wipe away any paint that has accidentally overlapped onto the painters’ tape.
Step 13: Allow the paint to dry
Let the paint dry completely for at least 24 hours or follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Step 14: Remove the painters’ tape
Carefully peel off painters’ tape after the paint is completely dry to reveal a clean edge.
Step 15: Decorate and enjoy
Return furniture and décor to the room and enjoy your new, stylish ombre wall!
Following these steps will help you achieve a beautiful, professionally-done ombre wall that adds a unique touch of design to your space.
