How to Make Your Own 3D Glasses: 9 Steps
1. Gather Materials: Before starting, you will need the following materials – red and blue (cyan) cellophane, cardstock or cardboard, scissors, a ruler, a pencil, transparent tape, and a template for 3D glasses (available online).
2. Print the Template: Search for a 3D glasses template online and print it on an A4 paper. There are several designs available, so pick one that suits your preference.
3. Cut Out the Template: Carefully cut out the template using scissors. Be sure to cut along the lines of the template without cutting into the actual design.
4. Trace the Template: Place the printed and cut out template onto your cardstock or cardboard and trace its outline with a pencil. Ensure you mark all fold lines and tabs on the cardstock.
5. Cut the Cardstock: Carefully cut out your traced design from the cardstock or cardboard using scissors. Be patient while doing this as precision is key in making functional 3D glasses.
6. Score Fold Lines: Using a ruler and blunt object such as a pen cap or dull butter knife, score along the fold lines on your cardstock by pressing gently without cutting through it. Scoring helps in getting crisp folds.
7. Attach Cellophane Lenses: Cut out two pieces of cellophane, one red and one blue (cyan), slightly larger than the lens openings on your template. Attach them to the inside of your glasses with transparent tape. The red cellophane should be on the left side while blue should be on the right side.
8. Assemble Glasses: Fold your cardstock along the scored lines, following any instructions provided with your template. Secure any tabs or edges with transparent tape to hold everything together properly.
9. Test Your Glasses: Try watching 3D content online, such as videos or images designed for red/cyan 3D glasses, to ensure your homemade glasses work properly. Remember that not all 3D content is compatible with red and blue (cyan) lenses.
Now you have your own DIY 3D glasses! Enjoy an immersive experience when watching 3D movies, videos, or playing games at home.
