How to Make Pew Bows
Pew bows are a beautiful and cost-effective way to add a touch of elegance to church weddings or special events. With minimal materials and easy-to-follow steps, you can create stunning pew bows in no time. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of making custom pew bows for any occasion.
Materials Required:
– Ribbon (preferably 2.5 inches wide)
– Scissors
– Measuring tape or ruler
– Floral wire
– Wirecutter
Step 1: Choose Your Ribbon
Select the ribbon that best matches your event’s theme or color scheme. Satin, organza, and grosgrain ribbons are popular choices for pew bows. You may consider using a single color or mix-and-match to create unique combinations.
Step 2: Measure and Cut Ribbon Lengths
For each pew bow, you will need three sections of ribbon: two tails and one loop. Measure and cut two tail pieces, typically around 24 inches long each. For the loop section, measure approximately 48 inches of ribbon. Remember that you can adjust these measurements based on your desired bow size.
Step 3: Create Loops
Take the loop section and fold it in half to find the center. Mark it with a small pinch or your fingertips, then hold the two ends together. Fold the ribbon at the center mark to form two loops; make sure they’re of equal size.
Step 4: Form a Figure Eight
With one hand on the center of both loops, twist them in opposite directions to resemble a figure-eight shape. Ensure that the front side of the ribbon faces outward on both loops.
Step 5: Secure with Floral Wire
Cut a piece of floral wire approximately six inches long using your wirecutter. Place wires behind the center where you’ve twisted your ribbon loops to form the figure eight. Twist the wire tightly several times to hold the bow securely.
Step 6: Add Ribbon Tails
Take your two tail pieces and place them together with the front sides facing outward. Position the tails behind the wired center of the bow. Wrap the remaining floral wire tails around both tail pieces to secure them in place, then trim any excess wire.
Step 7: Fluff and Adjust
Now, gently pull and fluff your loops and tails to create a full, symmetrical bow. Trim the ends of your tail ribbons at an angle or create a “V” shape for added elegance.
Step 8: Attach to Pew
When your pew bows are created, use extra ribbon or additional floral wire to secure each bow to a pew or seating arrangement. Adjust and straighten as needed to ensure they’re properly displayed throughout your event venue.
With these simple steps, you’ll have beautiful, custom pew bows that add a personalized touch to your special occasion. This cost-effective DIY project can be tailored to match any theme or color scheme while contributing a classic accent to your event décor.
