How to Make an Origami Star
Origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, has been practiced for centuries as a form of relaxation and creative expression. Today, we will explore the steps to create a beautiful origami star that you can use as a decoration, gift, or fun activity.
Materials Required:
– A square sheet of origami paper (any size will do)
– A flat surface to fold on
Let’s begin folding our origami star by following these easy steps:
Step 1: Create a Base Square
1.1 Start with the colored side of the paper facing down.
1.2 Fold the paper in half diagonally, creating a triangle.
1.3 Unfold it and repeat, folding on the opposite diagonal.
1.4 Unfold again and fold the paper in half horizontally.
1.5 Unfold and fold it in half vertically.
You should now have a square base with crease lines forming an “X” in the center.
Step 2: Forming the Pentagonal Shape
2.1 With the colored side up, fold each corner of the square base towards the center, forming a smaller square.
2.2 Flip the model over so you see only white.
2.3 Fold each corner about two-thirds of the way towards the center (not all the way) so that they meet at equal distances from each other.
2.4 Unfold all four corners.
2.5 Re-fold only two opposite corners back towards their respective crease lines from step 2.3. You should have a shape resembling a house with two triangular flaps at three corners.
Step 3: Shaping the Star Points
3.1 Fold one triangular flap inward along its crease line so that it aligns with another flap beneath it and forms a narrower triangle shape on top of the pentagon.
3.2 Repeat with the other two flaps.
3.3 Flip the model over and repeat steps 3.1 and 3.2 on the other side.
Note that you should now see five completed star points.
Step 4: Assembling the Star
4.1 Carefully pinch each point of your origami star, gently curling it inwards.
4.2 Apply pressure to fold and shape every point until they resemble a 3D star.
Congratulations, you have successfully created an origami star! You can now use this beautiful piece of art to adorn your home, accentuate gifts, or simply showcase your paper folding prowess. The more you practice this enjoyable craft, the easier it will become, and soon you’ll be able to create even more intricate origami designs.
