How to Make a Tattoo Gun: 10 Steps
Step 1: Gather Materials
To create a tattoo gun, you’ll need the following materials:
– An electric toothbrush or a small electric motor
– A pen or mechanical pencil
– A sewing needle
– Thin wire or thread
– Ink (preferably tattoo ink)
– A small power supply like a button cell battery or USB charger
– Electrical tape
– Scissors
Step 2: Disassemble the Electric Toothbrush
Take apart your electric toothbrush to extract the motor. Remove the outer casing, and carefully pull out the vibrating motor without damaging any of its parts.
Step 3: Prepare the Pen Body
Remove the ink cartridge from your pen. Cut off one end of the pen, leaving only a hollow tube.
Step 4: Attach the Motor to the Pen
Fasten the motor onto one end of your pen using electrical tape. Make sure it’s secure and properly aligned with the center of the pen.
Step 5: Create Needle Bar
Straighten out a sewing needle and wrap thin wire or thread around its opposite end. This will create a small loop for attaching it to the motor.
Step 6: Attach Needle Bar to Motor
Thread your needle bar onto the top of the electric motor’s shaft. Secure it in place using either a bit more wire or some electrical tape.
Step 7: Insert Needle into Pen Body
Thread your needle through the open, cut-off end of your pen’s hollow body. Make sure it moves smoothly within and that there is enough tension in the system that allows it to move back and forth.
Step 8: Ink Preparation
Pour a small amount of tattoo ink into a disposable container. You’ll use this as a reservoir for dipping your needle during tattooing.
Step 9: Connecting Power Source
Attach your small power supply – such as button cell battery – to the motor’s wires. Be cautious of polarity. If your motor doesn’t spin, try switching the wires to the other end of the battery. Once you’ve connected it successfully, put some tape in place to keep the wiring secure.
Step 10: Test Your Homemade Tattoo Gun
Dip your needle into the ink, and practice using your tattoo gun on a piece of fruit or similar surfaces before attempting any actual skin work. Make sure to keep practice safe and clean.
Note: This DIY tattoo gun is mainly for educational purposes or temporary tattoos. Amateur use could potentially be dangerous as it can cause infections or scarring due to unprofessional tattooing methods and lack of sterilization. Please be aware of these risks and prioritize safety when working with homemade tattoo equipment.
