How to Make a Paper Gun That Shoots
Introduction:
Paper guns can be a creative and fun way to spend your free time, especially for children. It not only provides an opportunity to engage your artistic skills but also offers a chance to learn about basic engineering. In this article, we’ll guide you through making a simple paper gun that shoots.
Materials required:
1. A4-size sheets of paper (3-4)
2. Rubber bands (2-3)
3. Pencil or pen
4. Scissors
5. Tape
Steps to make a paper gun that shoots:
1. Fold the paper:
To start, take one sheet of A4 paper and fold it in half, lengthways, to create a longer and thinner piece. This will serve as the base for your paper gun.
2. Create the barrel:
Fold the long, thin strip of paper in half again, making an even thinner strip. Then roll the strip tightly around your pen or pencil to create a solid tube-like structure. Secure the tube with tape to ensure it stays in shape.
3. Build the handle:
Take another piece of A4-sized paper and fold it in half widthways; then fold each corner toward the center crease at an angle so that you form a triangle on each end – this is referred to as a ‘house shape’. Now, fold these triangles back outwards from the center crease, creating a zig-zag pattern which will allow for easier gripping when holding the handle.
4. Attach the handle:
Slide the handle created in step 3 into one end of the barrel created in step 2. Secure it with tape on both sides to attach it firmly.
5. Prepare rubber bands:
Take two rubber bands and loop them together using a simple knot to create a single, longer rubber band.
6. Attach rubber bands to the barrel:
Pull one end of the rubber band over the tip of the barrel and secure it at the center, making sure it doesn’t obstruct the hollow part. Pull the other end of the rubber band back and secure it on the handle’s rear end. The stretched rubber band will allow for propulsion when shooting paper bullets from your gun.
7. Create your paper bullets:
Take another piece of paper and cut small triangles or squares to create your paper bullets. Roll them tightly, creating small, cylindrical projectiles that will comfortably fit in the hollow barrel.
8. Load and shoot:
To load your gun, insert a paper bullet into the hollow barrel. Hold the handle with one hand, pull back the rubber band with two fingers, place the paper bullet into the rubber band’s loop, aim, and release to shoot.
Conclusion:
Creating a paper gun that shoots is not only an entertaining activity but also a simple introduction to engineering concepts. Once you have mastered this basic design, you can experiment with different materials or shapes to improve your paper gun’s performance. Always remember to prioritize
