How to Make a Hair Knot: 10 Steps
1.Prepare your hair
Before starting, make sure your hair is clean, dry, and tangle-free. For best results, brush through your hair to remove any knots or tangles.
2.Choose your hair knot style
There are several ways to create hair knots. Some popular styles include the top knot, low knot, and half-up knot. Choose a style that best suits your preference and the occasion.
3.Gather materials
For most hair knots, you will need a few tools like a hairbrush, comb, hair tie or elastic band, bobby pins, hair spray (optional), and a mirror.
4.Start with a basic ponytail
Regardless of the knot style you choose, start by putting your hair into a basic ponytail. For a top knot or half-up knot, place the ponytail high up on your head; for a low knot, at the nape of the neck.
5.Loop your hair
Holding the base of the ponytail with one hand, use your other hand to loop your hair around its base in a clockwise direction. The tighter you loop it around the base, the more secure the knot will be.
6.Create the knot
Once you have looped your hair around its base multiple times or until there is no more loose length left (depending on your hair length), tuck any leftover ends under the loop and hold it in place with one hand.
7.Secure with bobby pins
With your other hand, insert bobby pins into the looped hair to secure it in place; place pins near the base of the ponytail where they are less visible but can still keep everything in place.
8.Fan out the knot (optional)
To create more volume in your look or for textured updos like messy buns or milkmaid braids, gently tug on sections of the looped hair to create a more voluminous or textured appearance.
9.Set with hairspray (optional)
If you want your hair knot to stay in place and last longer, spray a small amount of hairspray on it to provide an extra hold.
10.Admire your handiwork
Using a mirror, take a look at your finished hair knot and make any final adjustments as needed. You’ve successfully created a beautiful and elegant hair knot, perfect for dressing up or down, day or night!
Remember, practice makes perfect. The more you practice making hair knots, the quicker and easier it will become. Don’t be afraid to get creative with different styles and embellishments to make your look uniquely your own!
