Fleece beanie hats are a popular accessory for keeping warm during the colder months. Not only are they cozy and comfortable, but they can also be customized to suit your style. In this article, we will walk you through the steps needed to make your own fleece beanie hat.
Materials:
– Fleece fabric (approximately 1/4 yard)
– Scissors
– Measuring tape or ruler
– Sewing machine or needle and thread
– Fabric marker or chalk
– Pins
Step 1: Measure Your Head
To determine the size of your fleece beanie hat, wrap the measuring tape around your head where the hat will sit. Add one inch to the measurement for seam allowance.
Step 2: Cut the Fleece
Cut out two rectangles from the fleece fabric. Each rectangle should measure half of your head measurement (plus seam allowance) by nine inches. The nine-inch side will be the height of your hat.
Step 3: Fold and Cut Rounded Corners
Fold each rectangle in half along the long side so that the right sides are facing each other. Using a fabric marker or chalk, draw an arc from one corner of the folded edge down to the bottom corner on each piece. Cut along these lines to create rounded corners.
Step 4: Sew Side Seams
Unfold both pieces of fleece, align them with right sides together, and pin along the curved edges. Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew each curved edge together with a straight stitch, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Do not sew along the top or bottom edges.
Step 5: Turn and Sew Top Edge
Turn one of the sewn pieces right side out and insert it into the other piece, ensuring both right sides are facing each other. Pin along the top edge and sew with a straight stitch, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance. This will join the two pieces of your hat together.
Step 6: Fold and Sew Bottom Edge
Pull the inner piece of fleece out through the bottom opening and turn the entire hat right side out. Fold the bottom edges of both layers of fleece inward by 1/2 inch and pin along this folded edge. Sew around the perimeter with a straight stitch to create a neat finished edge.
Step 7: Add Optional Embellishments
If desired, add any embellishments such as buttons, patches, or embroidery to personalize your fleece beanie hat.
And there you have it – your very own handmade fleece beanie hat! Not only is this project simple and cost-effective, but it also allows you to create unique and personalized winter accessories. Stay warm and stylish this season with your DIY fleece beanie hat!
