How to Make a Chicken Costume
If you’re looking for a fun, unique costume idea, why not dress up like a chicken? Whether it’s for Halloween, a themed party, or a school play, a chicken costume is sure to turn heads and put a smile on people’s faces. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps of making your very own homemade chicken costume.
Materials Needed:
– Yellow or white hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants
– Feathers (either real or artificial)
– White or yellow gloves
– Orange knee-high socks (for chicken legs)
– Red felt (for chicken comb and wattles)
– Hot glue gun and extra glue sticks
– Scissors
– Needle and thread (or sewing machine)
– Black marker
Step 1: Preparing the Hooded Sweatshirt
Choose either a yellow or white hooded sweatshirt, depending on your preference for the color of your chicken. Lay the sweatshirt flat on a clean surface. Using the hot glue gun, attach feathers to the sweatshirt in overlapping layers, beginning at the bottom and working your way up. Be cautious when using the hot glue gun, as it can get extremely hot. Allow adequate time for each layer to dry before moving onto the next one.
Step 2: Preparing the Sweatpants
Similar to step 1, lay the sweatpants flat on a clean surface. Proceed with attaching feathers to the sweatpants using the hot glue gun. Start at the bottom cuff of each leg and work your way upwards.
Step 3: Creating Chicken Legs
Take your pair of orange knee-high socks and put them over your shoes to create the illusion of chicken legs. You can also stuff some extra fabric in-between your shoes and socks if you want a more rounded appearance for your chicken feet.
Step 4: Creating Chicken Comb and Wattles
To create the chicken comb (the red crest on top of a chicken’s head) and wattles (red fleshy lobes hanging on either side of a chicken’s beak), cut several elongated teardrop shapes from the red felt. Lay the sweatshirt hood flat, and glue or stitch the largest teardrop shape to the top-center of the hood to form the comb. Continue by attaching smaller teardrop shapes on either side of the beak area for wattles.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Slip on your costume, consisting of the hooded sweatshirt with feathers, feather-adorned sweatpants, white or yellow gloves, and orange socks over your shoes. For extra effect, you can use a black marker to draw nostrils on the tip of your nose or you can even wear a yellow or white beanie beneath the hood.
Now you’re all set to strut your stuff as a charming clucky chicken! This easy-to-make costume is perfect for any occasion requiring some feathery fun. Have a great time and enjoy all those curious looks and compliments coming your way!
