How to Log In to Outlook With a QR Code
Logging in to Outlook with a QR code can provide a quick and more secure way of accessing your emails without the need to remember and type out your password, especially when using shared or public devices. Here’s how you can use this feature:
1.Enable QR Code Login: Before you can log in with a QR code, the feature needs to be enabled by your organization’s IT administrator. This is done through the Azure portal where conditional access policies are established.
2.Accessing the Outlook Login Page: Visit the Outlook website on your device by typing `outlook.com` in your web browser and hitting enter.
3.Choosing QR Code Sign-In Option: On the login page, instead of entering your email and password, look for an option that says “Sign in with a QR code”. This option will only be available if it has been enabled by your administrator.
4.Launching the Microsoft Authenticator App: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone. This app is available for both iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded from their respective app stores.
5.Scanning the QR Code: Inside the Authenticator app, tap on the ‘Scan a QR Code’ button and use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on the Outlook login page.
6.Authentication and Access: Once scanned, you may be prompted to approve the sign-in request on your phone. After approval, you will be automatically logged into your Outlook account on the device without needing to manually enter any credentials.
7.Remember to Log Out: If you’re using a public or shared computer, always remember to log out of your account once finished by navigating to the user icon and selecting ‘Sign out’.
Using a QR code for logging in not only streamlines access but also bolsters security by leveraging two-factor authentication provided by Microsoft Authenticator. Remember that this process only works if both QR sign-in and Microsoft Authenticator are set up and correctly configured within your organization.
