How to Limit the CPU Usage for a Single Program in Windows
As computer users, we often have to deal with programs that consume too much CPU power, causing our computer to slow down or even freeze. This can be particularly frustrating when we need to work with multiple programs and need all of them to run smoothly without hogging too much resources. Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this problem – limiting the CPU usage for a single program in Windows.
The following guide will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to limit the CPU usage for a single program in Windows:
Step 1: Launch the Task Manager
The Task Manager is a built-in application in Windows that shows you the various processes running on your computer. To launch the Task Manager, right-click on the taskbar and select “Task Manager” from the context menu. Alternatively, you can press the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys and select “Task Manager” from the screen that appears.
Step 2: Identify the program that you want to limit
In the Task Manager, click on the “Processes” tab to see all the currently running processes on your computer. Look for the program that you want to limit and select it. If you cannot find the program in the list, click on “More details” at the bottom to expand the Task Manager.
Step 3: Set the CPU limit for the program
Once you have selected the program, right-click on it, and select “Set affinity” from the context menu. In the “Set affinity” dialogue box, you will see a list of all the CPU cores available on your computer. By default, all the cores will be selected. To limit the CPU usage of the program, uncheck the cores that you do not want the program to use. For example, if you have a quad-core processor, you can select only two cores to limit the CPU usage to 50%.
Step 4: Save the changes and exit
After selecting the cores, click on “OK” to save the changes and exit the dialogue box. The program will now run with the limited CPU usage, and you should notice an improvement in the performance of your computer.
