How to Install Windows 8 from USB
Installing an operating system like Windows 8 from a USB drive can be a faster and more convenient method than using a DVD. There are several reasons why you might want to do this, including creating a backup or restoring your computer to its factory settings. In this article, we will guide you through the process of installing Windows 8 from a USB step by step.
Before You Begin: Prepare Your USB Drive
To install Windows 8 from USB, you will need the following:
1.A USB drive with at least 8GB of storage space.
2.A computer running Windows with internet access.
3.Windows 8 ISO file or installation media (can be downloaded from Microsoft’s website).
4.Software to create a bootable USB drive (we recommend using Rufus).
Step 1: Download & Install Rufus
Rufus is a free and lightweight tool for creating bootable USB drives. Visit https://rufus.ie/ to download the latest version of Rufus and install it on your computer.
Step 2: Format the USB Drive
To prepare the USB drive for installing Windows 8:
1.Insert the USB drive into your computer.
2.Launch Rufus.
3.Under “Device” in Rufus, select your USB drive.
4.In the “Boot selection” dropdown menu, choose “Disk or ISO image”.
5.Click on “Select” and browse to the location where you saved the Windows 8 ISO file.
6.For “Partition scheme”, choose “MBR”.
7.Under “File system”, select “NTFS”.
8.Click “Start” and then click “OK” to confirm that you want to format the USB drive.
Rufus will now create a bootable Windows 8 installation USB drive.
Step 3: Configure Your Computer’s BIOS/UEFI Settings
To boot from the USB drive, you will need to configure your computer’s BIOS/UEFI settings:
1.Turn off your computer.
2.Turn it back on and press the appropriate key to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup menu (this key varies depending on your computer manufacturer; common keys are F2, F10, or Delete).
3.Navigate to the “Boot” settings and ensure that “USB Boot” is enabled.
4.Move the USB drive up in the boot priority order, so it’s listed as the first boot device.
5.Save your changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI setup menu.
Step 4: Install Windows 8
With your computer configured to boot from the USB drive:
1.Insert your prepared USB drive into the computer.
2.Restart your computer. It should now boot from the USB drive.
3.The Windows 8 installer will load; follow the on-screen prompts to set up and install Windows 8 on your system.
Once you have completed these steps, Windows 8 should be successfully installed on your computer. Remove the USB drive and restart your computer once more to boot into your newly installed operating system.
