How to Install Active Directory Users and Computers on Windows
Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that you can use to administer Active Directory (AD). Installing ADUC for Windows 10 and Windows Server is a straightforward process, but it’s important to ensure you have the appropriate administrative privileges before beginning.
For Windows Server:
1. Open ‘Server Manager’ from the Start menu.
2. In the ‘Server Manager’ dashboard, select ‘Add roles and features.’
3. Click ‘Next’ until you reach the ‘Features’ section.
4. Scroll through the list and check ‘Remote Server Administration Tools.’
5. Expand ‘Role Administration Tools’, followed by ‘AD DS and AD LDS Tools.’
6. Check ‘Active Directory Administrative Center’ and ‘AD DS Tools’. The latter option will select ADUC along with other tools.
7. Click ‘Next’, then ‘Install.’ You may need to restart your computer to complete the installation.
For Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise:
1. Open ‘Settings’ and go to ‘Apps’.
2. Under Apps & features, click on ‘Optional features’.
3. Scroll down to ‘Add a feature’ and click on it.
4. Search for ‘RSAT: Active Directory Domain Services and Lightweight Directory Tools.’
5. Check the box next to it, then click ‘Install.’
For older versions of Windows 10:
You might have to download RSAT from Microsoft’s website as it is not included by default.
1. Go to the Microsoft Download Center.
2. Look for RSAT for your specific version of Windows 10.
3. Download and install the package.
Post-Installation Configuration:
After installing ADUC, you might want to enable advanced features if they’re not already active:
1. Open ADUC by searching for it in the start menu or by running `dsa.msc` using Run (Win + R).
2. Right-click on your domain name or any organizational unit in the left-hand pane.
3. Click on ‘View’ in the top menu bar, then select ‘Advanced Features’ if it isn’t already ticked.
With ADUC installed, you can now manage users, groups, computers, organizational units, and more within your Active Directory environment from your local workstation.
Remember that installing ADUC requires domain admin permissions or delegated permissions sufficient to install these tools in your environment. Always ensure you are operating under proper security policies when managing Active Directory domains.
This process provides general instructions and might differ slightly depending on your system configuration or edition of Windows operating system; always refer to official Microsoft documentation or IT department guidelines for installation procedures specific to your setup.
