How to Increase Dedicated Video RAM (VRAM) in Windows 10 and 11
Dedicated Video RAM (VRAM) plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of your computer when it comes to tasks that require higher graphics performance. If your computer has low VRAM, it cannot handle demanding activities such as 3D rendering, gaming, or video editing. Fortunately, there are ways to increase the dedicated VRAM without the need for hardware upgrades. In this article, we look at how to increase VRAM in Windows 10 and 11.
Method 1: Increase VRAM using BIOS settings
One of the most effective ways to increase VRAM is by accessing your computer’s BIOS and adjusting the settings. This method works best if you have a dedicated graphics card. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS settings by pressing the appropriate function key (F2, F10, or Delete key) during startup.
Step 2: Look for the Graphics Configuration or Graphics settings option. The option may also appear as Advanced Features or Integrated Peripherals, depending on your motherboard.
Step 3: Once in the Graphics Configuration section, find the VRAM or Video memory option. You can increase the VRAM by selecting a higher value than what is currently set. The maximum value that you can set depends on your graphics card.
Step 4: Save the changes and exit the BIOS by pressing the F10 key.
Method 2: Increase VRAM using Registry Editor
If your computer has an integrated graphics card, you can still increase the VRAM. However, you will have to use the Registry Editor. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Type “regedit” in the search box and select the Registry Editor.
Step 2: Click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and navigate to the System folder.
Step 3: Select the CurrentControlSet folder and click on Control.
Step 4: Scroll down and locate the GraphicsDrivers folder, and click on it.
Step 5: Right-click on the empty space in the right pane and select New, then click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Step 6: Name the new DWORD Value “dedicatedSegmentSize” and press Enter.
Step 7: Double-click on the dedicatedSegmentSize file and change the Value data to the amount of VRAM you want to allocate in megabytes (MB). For example, to allocate 1GB of VRAM, enter 1024 as the Value data.
Step 8: Restart your computer to apply the changes.
Method 3: Increase VRAM using the Intel Graphics Command Center
If you have an Intel graphics card, you can increase the VRAM using the Intel Graphics Command Center. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Type “Intel Graphics Command Center” in the search box and select the app.
Step 2: Click on the System tab and select the Advanced Settings option.
Step 3: Click on the Graphics Settings option and select Dedicated Video Memory.
Step 4: Use the slider to increase the amount of VRAM you want to allocate.
Step 5: Restart your computer to apply the changes.
