How to Import a Custom Mouse Cursor on Windows 11
If you’re bored with your standard mouse cursor on your Windows 11 machine and looking to add a personal touch, you may want to install a custom mouse cursor.
Thankfully, importing a custom mouse cursor in Windows 11 is a breeze, whether you download the cursor online or create one yourself. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Find a Custom Cursor
Find and download a cursor you want to install on your Windows 11 machine. It can be anything from an animated cursor to a static image, created by you or downloaded from a website. You can easily find cursor packs available for free download online, which come with multiple cursor designs in one package.
Step 2: Extract the Cursor Files
After downloading the cursor file, you need to extract the contents of the zip file. Usually, mouse cursor packs come in zip files, which you have to extract to see the cursor files that need installation.
So, right-click on the downloaded cursor pack, and select ‘Extract Here’. A new folder would be created containing all the cursor files. Rename that folder to something recognizable, so you can easily find it on the next step.
Step 3: Install the Cursor
Once you have the cursor files extracted, you can start installing the cursor as follows.
Open your Start Menu, and search ‘Mouse Settings’ in the search bar or find and click it in the settings panel. Once the mouse settings page opens, scroll down to the ‘Related Settings’ section, and click on the ‘Additional Mouse Options’ link.
The Mouse Properties dialog box will open. Click on the ‘Pointers’ tab, and then click on the ‘Browse…’ button.
Find your cursor folder you extracted in Step 2 and select the cursor file for which you want to install the cursor. Be sure to pick the right cursor for the selected option from the Pointers tab, which includes Normal Select, Wait, Busy, and others.
Once you have picked the cursor, click on the ‘Open’ button, and the cursor will be installed immediately.
Step 4: Test the Cursor
After installing a new cursor, you should test if it’s working properly. Move your mouse and check if the cursor shape changes and/or animates according to the option you selected. If not, repeat the above steps carefully.
