How to Fold Paper Flowers: 10 Steps
Step 1: Choose Your Paper
Select a piece of paper that you’d like to use for your flower. Origami paper works best, but you can also use colored paper or even newspaper.
Step 2: Prepare the Paper
Cut a square out of your chosen paper if it isn’t already square-shaped. To ensure that the square is perfect, fold the paper in half diagonally and trim any excess, then unfold it.
Step 3: Create the Base Folds
Fold the square in half horizontally and vertically to create four smaller squares. Unfold the paper back into a square and then fold both diagonals to create two more creases. You should now have an X crease pattern with horizontal and vertical lines
Step 4: Petal Folding
With the colored side of the paper facing down, fold each corner into the center of the paper. This should form a smaller square with four triangular flaps.
Step 5: Fold Again
Repeat step 4 by folding each new corner into the center of the smaller square. This will create an even smaller square with eight triangular flaps.
Step 6: Unfold
Carefully unfold all eight triangular flaps, leaving just the initial four triangular folds from step 4.
Step 7: Create Petal Shapes
Take one of the large triangles and fold its inner right edge inwards along its central vertical crease. Repeat this for its left edge to create a diamond shape. Then, fold both edges backward along their outer edges to form a petal shape. Repeat this process for all remaining triangles.
Step 8: Shape Petals
Carefully shape your petals by curling their outer edges around a pencil or your finger. This will give them a natural, curved look.
Step 9: Assemble Your Flower
Now that you have all eight petals shaped, hold the paper with the four outer petals open, and gently push the center of the paper down so that the remaining petals pop up. The flower should now have a 3D shape.
Step 10: Final Touches
If desired, add a button, bead, or another small embellishment to the center of your flower to complete it. You can also use glue or tape to attach the flower to cards, gifts, or other projects.
Congratulations! You’ve just created a beautiful paper flower following these ten easy steps. With practice and creativity, you’ll soon be folding all kinds of unique and lovely paper flowers for any occasion.
