How to Fold a Pirate Hat: 8 Steps
Ahoy, matey! Want to don the perfect pirate look for Halloween or your next costume party? You won’t have to search the seven seas for a swashbuckling accessory. In just eight simple steps, you can fold a pirate hat from a sheet of paper! So, gather your materials and get ready to transform into a buccaneer.
Step 1: Find the Right Paper
Start by finding a piece of paper that is at least 12″ x 18″. A larger paper will lead to a larger hat, so make sure the size fits your needs. Black or brown construction paper will give your pirate hat an authentic look.
Step 2: Fold Your Paper Horizontally
Take your piece of paper and fold it in half horizontally, so that the shorter sides align with each other. This is called a hot dog fold.
Step 3: Fold Bottom Edges Upward
With your paper folded, you’ll notice two flaps hanging from the bottom edge. Take each flap and fold it upward towards the creased center line, creating two triangular shapes. The inner corners should touch the center crease.
Step 4: Turn Paper Over
Now flip your entire paper over-like pancakes on the plank! The triangular folds will be on the backside.
Step 5: Fold Top Corners Inward
With the folded side facing down, grab both top corners of the original rectangle and fold them inwards towards the center crease. You’re left with two new triangles pointing towards each other.
Step 6: The Second Bottom Edge Fold
As you did before, fold both bottom edges upwards again but this time across the midline, leaving most of each triangle’s point visible.
Step 7: Tuck Flaps into Hat
To secure your pirate hat and keep it held together nicely, tuck one of the upward folded flaps into the other.
Step 8: Put on Your Pirate Hat
Now you have a completed pirate hat made from folded paper! Open it carefully, place it on your head, and welcome aboard as you join the ranks of pirates sailing the high seas.
Whether you’re dressing up for Halloween, a themed party, or just want to channel your inner Blackbeard, this simple paper pirate hat makes for a fun and easy DIY accessory. Have fun crafting and unleashing your pirate spirit! Arr matey!
