How to Find Your Router’s IP Address
In today’s society, technology is an essential part of daily life. One device that people use daily is a router. A router is a device that allows computers, smartphones, and tablets to connect to the internet wirelessly. However, before modifying your router’s settings, you must know its IP address. This article will explain what an IP address is and provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to find your router’s IP address.
What is an IP address?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique numerical address assigned to every device connected to the internet. The IP address identifies each device, allowing it to communicate with each other and access the internet. IP addresses are essential because they act as a central point of communication for devices that allow users to share and receive data. For example, when you type in a website on your browser, your device sends a request to the website’s IP address to receive the requested information.
How to Find Your Router’s IP Address
Step 1: Open your command prompt
On a Windows computer, you can open the command prompt by pressing the Windows key + R simultaneously and typing CMD in the Run dialog box. On a Mac, open the Terminal application by searching for it in Spotlight or finding it in your Applications folder under Utilities.
Step 2: Type “ipconfig” command
After opening the command prompt or Terminal, type “ipconfig” command and press enter.
Step 3: Look for the “Default Gateway” IP address
After running the “ipconfig” command, you can see some information displayed on your screen. Look for the line that says “Default Gateway”. The Default Gateway is your router’s IP address.
Step 4: Type Default Gateway IP in your browser’s address bar
Open your web browser and type the Default Gateway IP Address in the Address bar and press Enter. This will take you to your router’s login page.
Step 5: Enter your router credentials
Depending on your router model, you might be asked to enter a username and password to access your router configuration page. If you never changed your default login credentials, you can check your router’s manual for login details. You can also find default login credentials of some routers from the manufacturer’s website.
