How to Find Out If Your Mac Uses Intel or Apple Silicon
Nowadays, Apple has replaced Intel processors with its very own custom-designed Apple Silicon chips, which are now powering the company’s Macbook line up. If you own a Mac and are curious to know if your machine is running on Apple Silicon or Intel, there are several easy ways to find out.
1. Click on the Apple Menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
2. Select “About This Mac.” This will show you important information about your Mac, including the processor type.
3. Look for the specific processor model listed under the Overview tab. If your Mac has an Apple Silicon processor, it will be listed as either an M1 or M2 chip. If it has an Intel processor, it will list the processor family, such as Intel Core i5 or i7.
4. Another thing you can do is to check the System Report. To do this, click on the “System Report” button under “About This Mac.”
5. Now, scroll down on the left-hand side of the System Report window until you find the “Hardware” option. Select it.
6. From the list of hardware details that appear, look for the “Processor Name” option. If it shows either “Apple M1” or “Apple M2,” then your Mac runs on Apple Silicon. But if it lists an Intel processor such as “Intel Core i5,” “Intel Core i7,” or newer models such as “Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650,” then your Mac runs on an Intel chip.
7. If your machine has the Apple logo on the top left-hand corner of the shellback, then that indicates that it runs on Apple Silicon.
