How to Dry Out a Wet iPhone: 11 Steps
1. Turn off the iPhone immediately: As soon as you realize your iPhone is wet, switch it off to prevent any electrical damage. Hold the power button and slide to power off.
2. Remove the case and accessories: Take off any protective case or cover and disconnect any connected accessories, such as headphones or charging cables.
3. Wipe the exterior gently: Use a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel to gently pat dry the exterior of your iPhone. Avoid pressing too hard or shaking, which could cause water to enter further into the device.
4. Gently shake the device: While holding your iPhone upright, gently shake it to remove any excess water from the Lightning port, speaker grilles, and other openings.
5. Use silica gel packets or uncooked rice: Place your iPhone in a container filled with silica gel packets or uncooked rice to absorb any residual moisture inside the device. Close the container and leave it in a dry area for at least 24-48 hours.
6. Don’t use heat sources: Avoid using direct heat sources, such as hairdryers or radiators, which could cause additional damage to your iPhone’s internal components.
7. Keep it in an upright position: Place your iPhone in an upright position during the drying process to help gravity drain any trapped water from ports and openings.
8. Resist turning it on prematurely: Wait for at least 24 hours before attempting to turn on your iPhone; turning it on while still damp can result in permanent damage.
9. Check for water damage indicators: Once the drying period has passed, examine your device for visible signs of water damage (corrosion) and check if Apple’s built-in Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) has been activated (it turns red when exposed to liquid).
10. Reassemble and turn on your iPhone: If there are no visible signs of water damage, and the LCI is not activated, reassemble your iPhone with its case and accessories and try powering it on.
11. Contact Apple Support if necessary: If your iPhone doesn’t turn on after the drying process or shows signs of water damage, contact Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. Remember, water damage is not typically covered under warranty.
