How to Draw Rapunzel: 14 Steps
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you begin, gather your drawing materials, such as a pencil, eraser, ruler for straight lines, and a drawing pad or sketchbook.
Step 2: Draw a Circle
Start by drawing a circle for Rapunzel’s head. This will be the foundation upon which we’ll build the rest of her features.
Step 3: Add Guidelines
Draw two vertical lines and one horizontal line within the circle. The vertical lines should be parallel to each other and indicate where her eyes will be placed. The horizontal line should be placed at the middle of the circle to help guide where her nose and mouth will fall.
Step 4: Draw Rapunzel’s Eyes
Following the guidelines from step three, draw two almond-shaped eyes on either side of the vertical lines. Add pupils and eyelashes for more detail.
Step 5: Sketch Her Eyebrows
Above each eye, draw an elongated curved shape that slightly tapers at both ends to represent Rapunzel’s eyebrows.
Step 6: Draw Her Nose
Beneath the horizontal guideline and between the vertical guidelines, lightly sketch a small line for her nose.
Step 7: Sketch Her Mouth
Underneath her nose, draw Rapunzel’s mouth by creating a simple smile shape first and then include her signature smirk by inclining one side of her lips slightly upwards.
Step 8: Outline Her Face Shape
Now that her facial features are in place, it’s time to define Rapunzel’s face shape. Extend two curved lines down from the sides of her head following an oval shape. Don’t forget to include her delicate chin as well!
Step 9: Create Her Ears
Moving on to Rapunzel’s ears, draw two small half-circle shapes on either side of her face, right about where the horizontal and vertical guidelines connect.
Step 10: Add Rapunzel’s Signature Flower
To the left side of her head, draw a small flower with five petals. This is Rapunzel’s signature flower from her hair.
Step 11: Start Drawing Her Hair
Begin drawing Rapunzel’s iconic wavy locks, starting at the top of her head and cascading down her shoulders and back, following the shape of the original circle and face outline.
Step 12: Add More Hair Details
Continue adding details to her hair by drawing more strands and curves to make it look thicker and vibrant.
Step 13: Refine Your Drawing
Go over your drawing a second time to smooth lines, erase any stray marks, and perfect the shapes of each feature as needed until Rapunzel starts coming to life on your page.
Step 14: Finish With Color
Once you’re satisfied with your drawing, add color using colored pencils, markers, or even watercolor paint. Finish by coloring her hair golden blonde, bringing her vibrant green eyes to life, and adding a pop of pink to her lips and cheeks.
