How to Draw a Computer Mouse: 6 Steps
Step 1: Sketch the Basic Shape
Begin by drawing an oval shape on your paper. Keep the proportions in mind – the back of the mouse should be wider and rounder, while the front should be narrower, gradually tapering towards the front end.
Step 2: Add Buttons and Scroll Wheel
Divide the top part of your drawn oval shape into two sections with a curved line starting from one side to another, this will serve as the left and right buttons. Inside the curved line, closer to the front end of the mouse, draw a small circle or ellipse – this will be the scroll wheel.
Step 3: Define Outline
Now that you have sketched out the basic shape and features of your computer mouse, it’s time to add more definition to make it look more realistic and three-dimensional. Go over your lines, smoothing them out where needed. Make any necessary refinements to details like button shape and scroll wheel placement.
Step 4: Add Details
Draw a small dot or ellipse on one side of the mouse near its base for the optical sensor. If you’re drawing a wired mouse, add a cable by drawing a slim line that extends from just below the front of the mouse and eventually curves upwards. For wireless mice, skip this step.
Step 5: Indicate Shadows
To add depth and realism to your drawing, indicate subtle shadows where light would logically hit your mouse. Consider light coming from above or to one side, then add shading under buttons and around curves – particularly near the base of the mouse.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Now it’s time to finalize your drawing. Erase any unnecessary pencil marks or guide lines that remain within your sketch. Go over your lines with pen or dark pencil if you want a more polished look. You can also use color – either colored pencils or digital painting techniques – to add life to your computer mouse.
