How to Do a 360 on Skis: 12 Steps
Step 1: Warm-up
Before attempting a 360 on skis, warm up by doing some gentle stretches and skiing a few easy runs to loosen up your muscles and get comfortable on the slopes.
Step 2: Choose an appropriate jump
Find a jump that is the right size for you. Beginners should start with a smaller jump, while more experienced skiers can try larger jumps.
Step 3: Get into the right stance
As you approach the jump, bend your knees slightly and maintain a centered and balanced stance. Keep your weight evenly distributed over both skis.
Step 4: Practice spinning without leaving the ground
Before attempting a full 360, practice spinning on flat ground by rotating your hips and shoulders in the direction you want to spin. This will help you get used to the motion.
Step 5: Approach the jump at an appropriate speed
As you approach the jump, pick up speed while maintaining control. Make sure you’re going at a speed that gives you enough airtime to complete the spin but still allows you to land safely.
Step 6: Initiate the spin
Just before leaving the lip (edge) of the jump, start to spin by turning your head, shoulders, and hips in the direction of rotation. Your skis will follow your upper body as you enter the air.
Step 7: Tuck your knees in
Once in the air, pull your knees towards your chest to make spinning easier and quicker. Remember to keep your eyes focused on where you want to land.
Step 8: Maintain control during rotation
Stay balanced and controlled throughout your spin. Keep your arms relaxed and positioned close to your body.
Step 9: Spot your landing
As you complete the rotation, locate your landing spot with your eyes and begin preparing for touchdown. Straighten out of your tucked position and stretch your legs out to prepare for landing.
Step 10: Touchdown
Absorb the impact of the landing by bending your knees and maintaining a balanced, centered stance. Keep your skis parallel as you land, and focus on driving your weight forward to ensure a smooth landing.
Step 11: Ride away clean
After you’ve landed, straighten your legs and regain your normal skiing stance. Shift your weight slightly forward as you feel more comfortable in order to maintain your balance.
Step 12: Practice, practice, practice
The key to mastering a 360 on skis is practice. The more you attempt it, the more comfortable and proficient you will become. Keep trying new techniques and practicing on different jumps until you feel confident in completing a full rotation.
With these steps in mind, remember always to stay safe and have fun while attempting a 360 on skis!
