How to Disable Word Wise on Your Kindle Reader
Kindle Reader has been a boon for book lovers, offering easy access to a massive library of books in a portable format. One of its features, Word Wise, can be quite helpful for those who are learning English or want to quickly look up the definitions of difficult words without leaving the page they are reading. However, for seasoned readers or those who find it distracting, there may come a time when you want to disable this feature. Doing so is quite simple and can be done in just a few steps.
Firstly, open your Kindle device and select the book you are currently reading or any book from your library where Word Wise is enabled. Once the book is open on your screen, look at the top of the screen—you should see a toolbar that becomes visible when you tap the top part of your screen.
Next, tap on the ‘Aa’ menu icon to bring up the reading settings. In this menu, you will find several options to customize your reading experience like font size, background color, and more importantly for our purposes, Word Wise settings.
In the menu that appears after tapping ‘Aa’, look for the ‘Reading Options’ section. Within this section lies the option to toggle Word Wise on or off. If Word Wise is currently enabled on your device, you will see it turned ‘On’ here.
To disable Word Wise, simply tap on this option and it will switch to ‘Off’. This action disables instant definitions, thus preventing Word Wise hints from appearing as you read. With that done, you can proceed with your immersive reading experience without any further interruptions from this feature.
Finally, tap anywhere on your book to exit the settings menu and continue reading. The changes should take effect immediately and you will no longer see the Word Wise tips popping up.
Remember that these preferences are saved per book on your Kindle device, so you will need to turn off Word Wise for each individual book where it is enabled. Also worth noting is that not all books have Word Wise available; it depends on whether the publisher has included support for this feature in their titles.
Disabling Word Wise allows users to read without aid if they find it unnecessary or disruptive. With these simple steps, readers can tailor their Kindle Reader experience to better suit their personal preference and enjoy their books just the way they like it.
