How to Create a Dropdown List in Google Sheets
Dropdown lists can be a helpful tool in Google Sheets as they make it much easier for users to select data from a predetermined list, as opposed to manually typing it in. In this article, we’ll go over how to create a dropdown list in Google Sheets– it’s actually quite simple!
Step 1: Create Your List
First, you’ll need to create a list of all the items you want to appear in your dropdown list. You can do this on any sheet within your Google Sheets document. It’s essential to make sure that this list is in the correct order, so that users can find and select the item they need quickly and easily.
Step 2: Select the Cell Where You Want the Dropdown List
Next, you must select the cell in which you want the dropdown list to appear. Click on the cell to select it.
Step 3: Go to the Data Validation Menu
Once you’ve selected the cell where you want the dropdown list to appear, navigate to the Data validation menu. You can find this by clicking on the Data menu at the top of the page and selecting “Data validation” from the dropdown list.
Step 4: Set the Criteria
In the Data validation menu, make sure that the Criteria drop-down menu is set to “List of items.” In the “List of items” box, paste the list you created in Step 1. Make sure to separate each item with a comma. Once the list is entered, click “Save.”
Step 5: Test the Dropdown List
Your dropdown list should now be ready to go! Click on the cell with the dropdown list, and you should see a small down arrow icon appear. When you click on this arrow, your list of items should appear, and you can select the item you want.
