How to Cook Chateaubriand
Chateaubriand is a luxurious and delectable cut of beef tenderloin known for its tenderness and subtle flavor. Often reserved for special occasions, this dish can impress your guests with its exquisite taste. Though it may seem intimidating at first, cooking Chateaubriand is simpler than you might think. Follow the steps below to create a mouth-watering dish that’s sure to satisfy your taste buds.
Ingredients:
– 1 Chateaubriand cut of beef, around 2 pounds
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– Fresh sprigs of thyme and rosemary
Instructions:
- Remove the Chateaubriand from the refrigerator at least an hour before you plan to cook it, allowing it to reach room temperature. This will enhance its tenderness and ensure even cooking.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- While the oven is heating up, season the beef generously on all sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat a large oven-safe skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and butter, allowing the butter to melt completely.
- Place the seasoned Chateaubriand in the hot skillet, searing each side for about 2 minutes or until a brown crust forms. Don’t forget to sear the ends as well.
- After searing all sides, reduce heat to medium-low and add minced garlic, fresh thyme, and rosemary sprigs to the pan.
- Carefully transfer the skillet into the preheated oven. Cook the Chateaubriand for about 15-20 minutes for medium-rare doneness or until it reaches an internal temperature of 125°F (51°C). For medium doneness, cook for 20-25 minutes or until an internal temperature of 135°F (57°C) is achieved.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let the Chateaubriand rest in the pan for at least 10 minutes, allowing the juices to be reabsorbed into the meat. This ensures a more tender and flavorful result.
- Slice the Chateaubriand into half-inch thick medallions and serve with your preferred sides. Popular choices include steamed asparagus, roasted potatoes, or a fresh green salad.
Enjoy your perfectly cooked Chateaubriand and happy cooking!
