How to Clean Cockapoo Ears: 10 Steps
Cockapoos are a popular breed of dog due to their friendly and affectionate nature. As a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, these dogs are known for their adorable appearance and low-shedding coats. However, one common issue that many Cockapoo owners face is keeping their dog’s ears clean and healthy. Here are 10 steps to help you maintain your furry friend’s ears in top condition.
1.Check your dog’s ears regularly: Make it a habit to inspect your Cockapoo’s ears at least once a week. Look for any signs of redness, swelling, discharge, or unpleasant odor which could indicate an infection or other issue.
2.Gather the necessary supplies: Before starting the cleaning process, ensure you have some cotton balls or gauze, a gentle dog ear cleaning solution, and some treats to reward your pup after the cleaning is done.
3.Choose the right location: Find a comfortable spot for both you and your dog where they feel relaxed and safe. A quiet corner of the house with ample space to sit down might be ideal.
4.Have someone assist you: If your Cockapoo is nervous during the process, ask someone to gently hold them in place while you work on cleaning their ears.
5.Examine the outer ear: Gently fold back your dog’s ear flap and visually inspect for any debris or wax buildup on the outer part of their ear.
6.Use the cleaning solution: Pour some of the ear cleaning solution onto a cotton ball or gauze pad until it’s damp but not soaked.
7.Gently clean the outer ear: Start by wiping away any visible dirt from the outer part of their ear with the damp cotton ball or gauze pad. Be careful not to push debris deeper into the canal.
8.Cleaning deeper into the ear canal: Moisten another cotton ball or gauze pad with the cleaning solution and gently insert it into your dog’s ear canal. This should only be done if you can see a wax buildup inside their ear. Be cautious not to dig too deep, as this could damage your dog’s ear.
9.Dry the ear: Use a clean towel or a dry cotton ball to carefully remove any remaining cleaning solution from your dog’s ear. This will help prevent any additional irritation or infection.
10.Reward your dog: After the process is complete, provide them with some praise and treats as a reward for their cooperation during the cleaning process.
By following these 10 steps regularly, you can help keep your Cockapoo’s ears clean and healthy, reducing the risk of infections for a happy, comfortable pup.
