How to Clean a Mr. Coffee: 11 Steps
When it comes to enjoying the perfect cup of coffee, regular cleaning and maintenance of your Mr. Coffee machine are essential. A clean coffee maker ensures better-tasting coffee and a longer-lasting appliance. Here’s a simple 11-step guide on how to clean a Mr. Coffee machine.
1. Unplug the Machine: Make sure the machine is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet to avoid any electrical hazards before beginning the cleaning process.
2. Remove Components: Detach all removable parts, including the filter basket, the carafe or mug, and any other removable components.
3. Rinse the Filter Basket: Rinse the filter basket under warm tap water, using a soft sponge or cloth to remove any coffee grounds or residue.
4. Wash the Carafe or Mug: Fill the carafe or mug with warm soapy water, scrub gently with a soft sponge or cloth to remove any stains or residue, and then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
5. Dry Removable Components: After washing, carefully dry all removable components with a clean towel.
6. Wipe Down Exterior: Using a damp cloth, wipe down the exterior of your Mr. Coffee machine, paying special attention to any stained areas.
7. Mix Cleaning Solution: Fill your carafe with equal parts white vinegar and water, enough to reach halfway up the reservoir.
8. Fill Reservoir: Pour that mixture into the water reservoir of your machine.
9. Begin Brewing Process: Place an empty filter in the filter basket and position it correctly in the machine’s designated slot. Press the “brew” button or equivalent on your Mr. Coffee model to start running the vinegar-and-water cleaning solution through your coffee maker.
10. Halfway Pause: When half of the cleaning solution has passed through into the carafe, pause brewing for approximately 15-20 minutes to let hot vinegar penetrate any mineral build-ups in the machine’s inner workings. After this time, resume the brewing process.
11. Run Fresh Water Cycle: Once the brewing process with the vinegar mixture is complete, fill the reservoir with fresh water and run another brewing cycle. This step might need to be repeated 2 to 3 times to remove all traces of vinegar from your coffee maker.
To ensure that your Mr. Coffee machine delivers the best taste and maintains its longevity, always use a clean filter and fresh water each time you brew. Additionally, aim to deep-clean your coffee maker with the above-listed steps once a month or more frequently if you notice a build-up of residue or a decline in coffee quality
