How to Change Your Password on Any Linux Desktop
If you are using a Linux desktop, changing your password is a necessary task to ensure the security and privacy of your system. A strong password is key to keeping your data and files safe from unauthorized access. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to change your password on any Linux desktop.
Step 1: Open your terminal
To change your password, you need access to your terminal. To open your terminal, press ‘Ctrl+Alt+T’ or search for the terminal in the application launcher on your Linux desktop.
Step 2: Type the command to change your password
Once your terminal is open, type the following command:
$ passwd
This will show you a prompt to enter your current password before you can change it. Enter your current password and press Enter.
Step 3: Enter your new password
After entering your current password correctly, you will be prompted to enter your new password twice. Remember to choose a strong password that is at least eight characters long, contains both uppercase and lowercase letters, as well as numbers and symbols.
Step 4: Confirm the password change
After you have entered a new password, the system will ask you to confirm it by retyping it. This is a security measure to ensure that you have entered the correct password. Once done, press Enter.
Step 5: Log out and log in again
