How to Change Screen Timeout on an iPhone
As an iPhone user or owner, you may have noticed that your screen goes blank or dims after a few seconds or minutes of inactivity. This is called screen timeout or auto-lock, and it’s a default setting on iPhones to conserve battery life and prevent unauthorized access.
However, you might find the default screen timeout duration too short or too long for your preference or usage pattern. If you want to change your iPhone’s screen timeout, follow the steps below:
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on “Display & Brightness.”
3. Tap on “Auto-Lock.”
4. Choose the desired screen timeout duration from the list:
– 30 seconds
– 1 minute
– 2 minutes
– 3 minutes
– 4 minutes
– 5 minutes
– Never (not recommended)
5. Wait for a few seconds, and your iPhone’s screen timeout will be updated.
Notes:
– The minimum screen timeout duration you can choose is 30 seconds.
– The maximum screen timeout duration you can choose is 5 minutes.
– Choosing “Never” as your screen timeout means your iPhone will never lock its screen automatically, even if you don’t use it for hours or days. This can drain your battery faster and compromise your privacy and security.
– If you’re using an iPhone with Face ID (iPhone X or later), you can extend the screen timeout when you’re looking at the screen. To do this, go to Settings > Accessibility > Face ID & Attention > “Extend Face ID Attention.”
– If you’re using an iPhone with Touch ID (iPhone SE or earlier), you can extend the screen timeout when you’re touching the screen. To do this, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > “Touch Accommodations” > “Hold Duration.”
In summary, changing your iPhone’s screen timeout is easy and straightforward, and it can make your usage more efficient and personalized. Just go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, and choose the duration that suits you best. Remember that longer screen timeouts can drain your battery faster and expose your device to risks, so choose wisely.
